Spain remains one of the world's premier retirement destinations due to its high quality of life, excellent healthcare, and warm climate. However, moving to Spain requires meeting specific visa and financial criteria.

The Non-Lucrative Visa (NLV) Requirements

For non-EU citizens (such as US, UK, or Canadian expats), the most popular path is the Non-Lucrative Visa. This visa requires proof of recurring, passive income. The financial threshold is calculated using the IPREM index:

• Main Applicant: 400% of the IPREM (approx. €2,400 per month or €28,800 per year).
• Dependents: 100% of the IPREM (approx. €600 per month per dependent).

This income must come from passive sources such as pensions, dividends, interest, or rental yields. Active employment income is not allowed.
